Turn Off This Invasive Facebook App Feature

If you use the Facebook mobile app you may have noticed something odd lately. The ‘Suggested Friends’ area may be showing you faces that look vaguely familiar, but they’re actually just strangers you’ve passed by out in public.

According to CNET:

Facebook is using your phone’s location to match you with fellow Facebook users who are nearby, as first reported by Fusion. There’s a lot that could go wrong with this feature, and frankly it’s a bit creepy.

How To Turn It Off: Android
On your phone or tablet running Android 6.0 (aka Marshmallow), tap Settings > Apps and select the Facebook app. In the settings menu for the Facebook app, tap Permissions and toggle Location off in the Permissions screen.

In prior versions of Android the steps may differ slightly, but the key is to turn off Location permissions for the Facebook app.

How To Turn It Off: iOS
On your iPhone or iPad, tap Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Facebook, and tap “Never” for Allow Location Access.

Facebook: it’s always something.
