Quick Tip: Where’s The Zoom Control in Firefox 29?

Following the announcement of a major security hole in Internet Explorer (I blogged about it myself here), lots of us have switched to Firefox or Google Chrome browsers. I’ve switched to the latest version of Firefox, Firefox 29.0.1, and yesterday something weird happened:

I have no idea how I did it, but some combination of mouse action and button tapping shrank the contents of my browser window to the point where it was hard to read. In the past there was a pretty obvious File Menu icon at the top of the browser window, and I knew that’s where I would find “Internet Options” and be able to change the zoom settings. But in Firefox 29, that File menu item is gone and there’s no obvious location for changing zoom settings. After poking around a bit, I finally found it (click or tap on image to view an enlarged version in a new tab or window):

In Firefox 29 the File menu icon is that little group of three horizontal lines at the upper right-hand corner of the browser window. When you click it, you see the options dialog box shown above. The zoom controls are near the top of that dialog, and if you didn’t know to look for them there, they’re easy to miss.

Now you know!
